Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
First, I want to thank all of you who contributed to our Water for Inmates effort. The response was overwhelming and your compassion for those who so often of viewed as the least among us was, frankly, humbling. So again, thank you.
Second, is an update. My original hope was to raise enough for a couple of pallets of bottled water. I was just arranging the delivery of six (6) pallets of water when I was contacted by the Program Director I’d been working with, and though she was appreciative, she asked me NOT to send any water.
Apparently, someone or some company had donated several truckloads of water to a few of the units in Huntsville, there are sixteen (16) pallets to a truckload so, they were good with water for now. However, the Program Director then asked if we might help in another way.
She asked if we might be willing to donate “cooling towels”. If you are not familiar, a cooling towel is a micro-fiber towel that includes a hyper-evaporative breathable mesh material that is activated when you soak, wring out and snap the towel. The unique cooling system uses moisture from the towel to draw the sweat away from your skin to keep you cool. They work. However, because of the context, a specific towel is needed so as to not distinguish inmates from one another. I checked the price through the state vendor and it’s very reasonable.
I’ve contacted a few of you who made a donation for water and so far, everyone has been okay with purchasing the cooling towels. So, we will be sending around 2500 lime green cooling towels to the Wainwright Unit of TDCJ in Lovelady, Texas.
So, thank you for your kindness and generosity. If you have a question or concern, please feel free to contact me.
Peace,
Pastor Mark
